I could not agree more. Gowalla has dumped the very thing that made it unique. I like the idea of stories, but I much preferred the the items and pins. Oh well.

  8. appletite said: Download “Momento” from the app store. Import ur entire Gowalla history. Use the app to create a backup. Then leave the Gowalla service and continue on your merry way with Foursquare and never worry about losing another shred of data. Problem solved.
  9. mattdoucette said: I used Gowalla for a long time for the same reasons you gave. I ultimately switched because I felt the check-in process was more lightweight in Foursquare. It’s sad to see that most of the Gowalla users I know no longer have use for it.

  11. anthea-whittle said: Does Gowalla have an API or something you could use to take a copy of your data? I’m a Foursquare user myself, and love how useful it is for finding some place to go when I’m on unfamiliar ground. Plus there’s the collection aspect, with badges.
  12. chartier said: As much as I usually dislike the practice, this is the reason I started using their multi-checkin feature to checkin on Foursquare and Facebook. At least some of my checkins were preserved on Foursquare. :\
